Man Dies after Being Shot in Apparent Robbery Attempt in San Mateo – Information Sought

San Mateo FL:  On Thursday May 25, 2017, at approximately 4:30 am, Putnam County deputies were dispatched to Rosie’s Cyberspace Café at 734 South Highway 17, in response to a possible shooting. At the business they discovered a 34-year-old male, later identified as Derwin Eugene Davis of Daytona, had been shot in the leg during an apparent robbery attempt. Mr. Davis was transported to Putnam Community Medical Center where he was pronounced to be deceased upon arrival.

The robbery attempt appears to have occurred in the parking lot and then spilled back into the business where Mr. Davis was shot. It is believed Mr. Davis was not involved in the robbery attempt but was a bystander who was a patron of the business.

The suspect has been described as a dark skinned black male.
