Law Enforcement

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 12:52 PM today at 902 Lime Street in Crescent City regarding an adult male who had cut himself in the neck and was armed with a knife. A Putnam County Deputy and a Crescent City Police Officer arrived together at 1:00 PM to find the subject still armed with the knife and bleeding from the neck. Initial information suggests the subject was still armed upon their arrival and both law enforcement officers attempted to disarm the subject using Tasers. The Taser deployments only resulted in limited effectiveness and the subject remained armed. Both the Deputy and the Crescent City officer discharged their handguns striking the subject. The Deputy and Officer both provided first aid and requested rescue. The patient was transported to Putnam Community Hospital by rescue were he died. At the request of Sheriff DeLoach, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be conducting the investigation as an outside agency.
