Interlachen, FL: On Monday, December 18, 2017, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 506 Marion Avenue, Interlachen in reference to multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival at the residence, they determined an altercation of some kind had broken out between individuals at the house and another group of people who arrived at the home in a vehicle. Gunfire was exchanged. Deputies discovered one black male deceased in a vehicle in the roadway a short distance from the home and were told two other men had fled the scene on foot. A large perimeter was established around the area and a helicopter was requested from the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the search.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Office K9 units also responded and initiated a track of the fleeing men from the location of the shooting. The two suspects were apprehended about a mile and a half from the original scene. One of the men was found to have a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the shoulder and was transported by ground to Shands in Gainesville.
The St Johns helicopter also helped to locate a suspicious vehicle that entered the area in what is believed to have been an attempt to pick up the fleeing men.
The name of the victim has not been released pending the notification of the next of kin.
