Grandmother Arrested for Possible Arson

Palatka FL: On Thursday July 20, 2017, at approximately 10:30 pm deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 106 Waldron Road Palatka, Florida in reference to the report of a structure fire. At the house they were met by residents of the home who said the fire had intentionally been set by their grandmother, 63-year-old Sherry R. Johns who was also the property owner. Deputies then spoke with Johns and subsequently detained her while contact was made with the State Fire Marshall’s Office in regards to the possible arson. After further investigation, Johns was placed under arrest and transported to the Putnam County Jail where she was booked on one charge of second degree felony arson.

No one was injured as a result of the incident, however the house and a nearby vehicle, which did not belong to Johns, were burned to the ground.
