Father Arrested for Leaving Toddler Unattended

On January 16, 2017 at approximately 10:00 am, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Patrol deputies responded to 117 Fred Street, Interlachen Florida in reference to the report of an unattended child. At the residence, they made contact with a neighbor who said she had discovered a one year old male child wandering in the yard at 117 Fred Street while unattended. The neighbor said it was the second time within an hour and a half that she had found the child outside by himself. She said the first time she had knocked on the door and was able to wake up the child’s father, later identified as 23-year-old Brandon Overton, who told her the child had wandered off while he (the father) was inside sleeping.

The second time the neighbor saw the child alone in the yard she said she was unable to get anyone to come to the door and had then called the Sheriff’s Office. After speaking with Overton, Deputy Darren Riley placed him under arrest and transported him to the Putnam County Jail where he was booked on one count of child neglect. Overton is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.

Overton was also arrested and charged with child neglect on October 1, 2016 for allowing another child (a three year old male) to wander off from the same residence while he (the father) was inside sleeping.
