San Mateo FL: On Thursday June 8, 2017, at approximately 10:30 am, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a burglary alarm at 408 North Fern Street in San Mateo. At the residence they discovered a broken window and the back door slightly ajar. Deputy Nicholas Miller and Deputy Brandon McMahon entered the back door of the house to clear the residence. On their entry, they saw a black male, later identified as 21-year-old Jamal Lee Wright, run out the front door. Unfortunately for Wright, he ran straight into the waiting arms of Sergeant Diamond Lewis and Captain David Ussery. Wright then resisted arrest and began actively fighting with Sergeant Lewis and Captain Ussery before being subdued by the use of a TASER and restrained in handcuffs.

Wright was placed under arrest and transported to the Putnam County Jail without further incident. Wright was booked on one felony count of burglary, one felony count of battery on a law enforcement officer and one felony count of resisting arrest with violence. He is currently being held on a bond of $20,000.

Sheriff Gator DeLoach said “Burglars beware! Wright doesn’t win the award for Putnam’s dumbest criminal, but definitely deserves runner-up. He better think twice before breaking into a house in Putnam County again. We will continue to aggressively target those who steal from others and destroy our peace and quality of life. If you see Sergeant Lewis or Captain Ussery, please take a minute to thank them for a job well done.”
